Full description

June 1996. Fieldwalking in strip of short vegetation and game cover adjacent to NHER 31839 found quantity of Roman pottery etc.as below.
Roman grey ware, 2 jar rims, 1 base, 12 body sherds.
1 Roman oxidised sherd (flagon body).
1 Roman East Anglian colour coated.
1 Sandy reduced Iron Age or Roman (probably latter).
1 Very dark grey reduced Iron Age.
2 medieval unglazed.
1 strange foot ring with spot of glaze, micaceous grey core, pinkish surfaces. Looks like Roman other than glaze.

B. Cushion (NLA) June 1996.

September 1996. Site extends to southwest after fieldwalking in very restricted conditions by A. Rogerson and B. Cushion (NLA).
Most of finds to northeast of pond.
Original site, additional finds:
9 Roman greyware.
6 medieval unglazed.
1 Glazed Grimston.
1 Glazed Red Earthenware.
1 post medieval reduced.
Extension of area to southwest:
1 flanged Roman Oxford bowl or mortarium rim.
1 jar rim, 2 dish or bowl rims, 2 bases and 16 body sherds of Roman greyware.
1 Roman oxidised body sherd.
1 handle Glazed Grimston.
1 Late medieval/early post medieval.
