In 1951 timber piles and Roman pottery sherds were found on the bank of the River Wensum at this location. It has been suggested that these discoveries indicate the location of a Roman bridge.

1951.
Timber piles and Roman pottery sherds were found in the south bank of the River Wensum. These may indicate a Roman bridge.
