Summary

Metal detecting over a large area has led to the discovery of metal objects of Roman, Saxon, medieval and post medieval date. These include a scattered Roman coin hoard, other Roman coins, fragments of Early Saxon brooches, Middle Saxon and Late Saxon strap fittings, part of a Late Saxon bridle cheekpiece and a hoard of medieval silver coins. Artefacts collected within the area of the site are also recorded as NHER 20190, 21504, 20702, 20704, 20502, 20437, 20498, 20335, 20176, 21503 and 24971.

Large scatter including sites NHER 20190, NHER 21504, NHER 20702, NHER 20704, NHER 20502, NHER 20437, NHER 20498, NHER 20335, NHER 20176, NHER 21503, NHER 24971.

June 1993. Metal detecting.
Context 1: general scatter, with Roman coins and metalwork (S2), Early Saxon (S3, S4. S5 and S6), Middle Saxon (S7) and Late Saxon metalwork, medieval and post medieval coins and metalwork.
Context 2: medieval hammered silver coin hoard.

Context 1: Strap end found in 1993 and identified as Early Saxon. Is of type re-dated to the 10th century (Borre style) by member of the public [1] and member of the public [2]. See (S1).

March 2003. Metal detecting in northeast part of field, within an area 18m (20yds) across.
Twelve silver and base silver coins (Trajan to Claudius II) forming (part of) a hoard scattered some time in the past with no evidence of a container. Submitted for consideration as Treasure (disclaimed 13/05/05). Three 4th century coins were also recovered.
