Summary

Metal detecting in this area during the period 1991-94 recovered an Early Saxon wrist clasp, a 6th century bronze disc - possibly from a vessel, two Middle Saxon coins and a medieval mount and fitting.

Full description

November 1991. Metal detecting.
Gilt bronze 6th century cast disc, probably escutcheon from centre of vessel (?), decorated with pair of Style I animals in relief around raised central boss. Raised outer border (double moulding). One small area mis-cast/worn to produced two small holes. White metal traces on reverse. To be photographed
Medieval gilt bronze terminal of ?belt fitting, decorated with scrolls and leaf. Rivet.

January 1992. Metal detecting.
Found close to previous Early Saxon find.
Bronze wrist-clasp eye plate (compare with Hine type B12). Eye is rather irregular and is drilled through main body of clasp, indicating that this is a hook-plate reused. Where would have projected has been filed smooth. Two zones of transverse ribbing. Two attachment lugs. To be photographed.
