Summary

Metal detecting recovered a large number of finds dating from the Iron Age to the post medieval period. These include sixteen Iron Age and Roman coins that were probably deposited as a hoard in the first century AD. Other interesting finds include an Iron Age terret, a Late Saxon Winchester-style strap-end, a Late Saxon brooch, a wonderful Borre-style 10th century strap end, a medieval arrowhead and a St Edmund memorial coin.

These finds were recorded from photocopies of polaroids and a Museum enquiry sheet, see [2].

April to May 1990. Metal-detecting. [4].
Three Icenian silver coins (report by A. Gregory pending). No. 1 mass 1.015g; no. 2 mass 1.214g; no. 3 mass 1.051g. All three to be photographed.
Roman coin. Unidentifiable 2nd century sestertius.
Simple Iron Age bronze terret, (S1).
Medieval iron tanged arrowhead. Identified by S. Margeson (NCM).
Medieval gilt bronze buckle plate decorated with central stem producing two leaves (double) in profile in low relief. Stamped ornament in ground. Undulating outer ege, two rivet holes. Identified by S. Margeson (NCM).

Four Icenian coins: Pattern-Horse ECE B 1.054g; Pattern-Horse ?ECE B 0.887g; Face Horse A 0.991g; Face Horse B/C 0.892g. All identified by D. Gurney (NLA). See (S2).
Two Roman coins (see list).
Late Saxon Winchester-style strap-end. Front part of split end broken off. Main body consists of animal head and face at top with branching leaf sprays (acanthine) on either side. Elongated neck forming centre. Rounded terminal with ring-and-dot decoration possibly forming body of animal. See (S3).

Penny Edward I, Durham mint CIVITAS DVREME, 1272 to 1307.
English lead token, quartered, cut along cross motif -13th/14th century.
