Name:Possible Roman settlement and multi-period finds, Field Dalling

Summary

Metal-detecting between 1988 and 2017 showed this to be the site of a possible Roman settlement. This idea is supported by the discovery of Roman brooches, a pin, over a hundred coins (including about ten coins fused together) and a large amount of pottery. Other finds include prehistoric flakes, a Neolithic blade and core, a Bronze Age plano-convex knife; Late Iron Age, medieval and post-medieval coins and post-medieval tokens; aswell as Early Saxon, Late Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds includes an Early Saxon patrix; a Late Saxon brooch; a medieval papal bull and vessel fragment; and a medieval/post-medieval personal ornament.
