Summary

Extensive fieldwalking in this area since 1986 has recovered a wide variety of objects. Finds included over 1100 prehistoric flint artefacts, including a Neolithic laruel leaf, a possible Late Saxon finger ring a medieval jetton and an undated lava quern. In addition, sherds of Iron Age, Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery have been found on site. Metal-detecting between 2010 and 2019 recovered Roman and medieval coins; a Late Saxon/medieval scabbard chape; a medieval buckle, a post-medieval button and a crotal bell.

1986 to 1987. Hill Field. Surface finds.
Pottery sherds: five probable Thetford type ware; twenty five medieval unglazed; four glazed Grimston. Three post medieval.

1987/1988.
Pottery sherds:
One Iron Age gritty.
Two dark grey sandy Iron Age or Early Saxon.
Five Roman greyware.
One Ipswich sandy rim; three Ipswich pimply bodysherds and one base.
Sixty-five Thetford type. Seventy-four medieval unglazed (perhaps including some Thetford type. Nine glazed Grimston.
Eighteen post medieval glazed red earthenware and stoneware.
Bronze finger ring, plain, tapering round sectioned overlapping ends, Late Saxon?
