Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting at this site has recovered a general scatter of Roman pottery and three concentrations of possible Iron Age pottery. A further concentration of Late Bronze Age pottery along with two flint scrapers was also identified. Iron working waste was also found. Metal finds include two Roman coins, two Early Saxon brooches and a post medieval jetton from France.

Full description

Winters 1986 to 1987 and late 1987. Southern half of field, immediately east of site NHER 14353.
Surface finds from systematic fieldwalking.
General scatter over south part of field of Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and iron slag.
Four concentrations of Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age sherds, one with two button scrapers.
Concentrations of iron slag.

November 1992.
Part of Group V florid cruciform brooch. Lower part of bow, with fragment of square panel, and upper part of foot with mask and apex of triangle below nose. Rectangular lappets with style 1 decoration and ribbed bars along outer edges. Central square panel with style 1 decoration. Fresh breaks and some other damage to edges and surfaces.

November 1992. Metal detecting.
Lower part of bow and upper part of foot with squarish lappets with damaged catchplate on reverse, of Early Saxon Group V florid cruciform brooch. Style 1 decoration is very sharp and fresh. Breaks all quite recent.
