Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking recovered a variety of prehistoric to post medieval objects. These include prehistoric worked and burnt flints, a medieval buckle and a Roman coin. Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery pieces were also found.

Full description

October 1987. Surface finds over area about 100m north to south.
One handmade sandy sherd, probably Early Saxon, but might be Iron Age.
Five medieval unglazed sherds.

March 1996. Metal-detecting.
1 ?Neolithic flint flake knife.
2 undatable prehistoric retouched flint flakes.
2 ?prehistoric flint 'pot boilers'.

1996. Metal detecting finds.
?Neolithic flint scraper.
Undated prehistoric flint blade, two flakes, pot boiler.
Two medieval sherds.
Post medieval rim sherds.
Medieval kidney-shaped buckle frame with narrowed bar and lipped pin rest.
?Medieval slightly curving gilt bronze rod. Both ends solid, one with gilding intact, the other possibly broken. A hole close to the ?broken end shows that the rod is at least partly hollow. Rectangular section. Function unknown.
Undatable flat triangular lead weight - no markings but with raised rib down centre of one side with sides chamfered.
