Summary

The recovery of stray finds, fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1850 and 2018 retrieved prehistoric worked flint; undated, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval roof tile fragments; possible animal or human bone fragments; an undated quern stone fragment; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval token and Bronze Age, Iron Age/Roman, Roman, Early Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Middle Bronze Age looped palstave; a Late Iron Age/Roman brooch, a Roman brooch; an Early Saxon brooch; Late Saxon/medieval and Late Saxon/post-medieval spindle whorls; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval/post-medieval knife end-caps, cloth seals, a copper alloy vessel sherd, and possible musket balls and post-medieval unidentified objects and a harness mount. The Bronze Age palstave may be part of a scattered hoard together with objects from NHER 20692 and NHER 4755.

THE SITE OF ST HELEN'S CHURCH AND THE CROPMARKS OF AN UNDATED RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURE FORMERLY RECORDED UNDER NHER 22053 ARE NOW RECORDED UNDER NHER 4791 AND NHER 60097 RESPECTIVELY.
