Name:Site of Late Saxon and medieval settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

This is the site of a common edge medieval settlement, which may have developed from the Late Saxon period. Prehistoric flints, including a concentration of prehistoric pot boilers, and fragments of pottery dating from the Late Saxon to the post medieval periods, were found during field walking. Metal detecting in 2006 recovered a single post medieval coin.

Full description

April 1981. Field walking. Ordnance Survey field Great Fransham 246. Good conditions.
Many finds of medieval sherds including early medieval and Grimston, post medieval sherds including glazed red earthenware.
Thetford ware, worked flints.
Concentrations of prehistoric pot boilers.
