Name:Possible Bronze Age hoard

Summary

A Bronze Age copper alloy looped palstave was found in 1941 or 1942. Metal detecting on the site has recovered other Bronze Age finds including the butt end of a halberd or dagger, parts of a dagger or rapier and a complete looped spearhead. An Iron Age terret and an illegible Roman coin were also found. The Bronze Age finds may be part of a scattered hoard. It appears that ?Iron Age pottery has also been recovered at this site.

Looped palstave, with expanded cutting edge.

March 1999. Metal-detecting.
The Norwich Castle Museum hold a number of prehistoric pottery sherds that were recovered by [1] in early 1999 (NWHCM : 1999.1.34.30). Although these find were never reported to the NHER the grid reference listed [2] suggests that they were from the area covered by this site. The sherds are possibly Iron Age.
