Summary
Complex cropmarks can be seen on aerial photographs of this area. These consist of a series of rectilinear enclosures, a ring with a cross in its centre (probably a medieval mill mound) and a series of rectangular sunken features, possibly the location of buildings. Fragments of Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery have been found here. This site may represent an area of medieval settlement and activity associated with a mill. Its location next to Brumstead Hall (NHER 22904), suggests this may be a settlement associated with the hall. These cropmarks have now been recorded as three separate features - NHER 38535, NHER 38536 and NHER 38537.

CROPMARKS AT THIS SITE HAVE NOW BEEN DIVIDED UP INTO THREE RECORDS (NHER 38535, 38536, 38537)

In front of Brumstead hall.
Cropmarks. Sub rectangular enclosure and linear cropmarks. Rectangular 'block' cropmarks and one ring ditch.

Further cropmarks located to the west of main site. These consist of a series of rectilinear enclosures. Reinterpretation of this site is possible. The cross in the centre of the ring ditch indicates its use as a postmill mound. The 'block' cropmarks to the immediate west of the mill are rectangular sunken features, possibly the location of buildings. These features also appear within the main enclosure to the west. This site may represent an area of medieval settlement and activity associated with the mill. Its location next to Brumstead Hall (NHER 22904), may suggest a relationship with the hall, such as an associated settlement.
