Name:Bunwell Bronze Age hoard

Summary

Metal detecting has recovered a Bronze Age metalworker's hoard from this location. The hoard includes fragments of a socketed axe, a hammer, a knife, a gouge, an annular collar, a barbed spearhead and several unidentified objects. A small possibly Roman brooch has also been recovered from here and a Roman coin may also come from this site.

Full description

25 April 1981 and subsequently. Metal detecting within a radius of 7m [1].
Bunwell hoard consisting of the following.
One facetted socketed axe.
One fragment socketed axe (with scrap fragment within).
One socketed hammer.
One socketed palette knife.
One socketed gouge (in two pieces).
Annular collar (with open hemispherical section, rebated inner edge and two loops beneath).
One socketed barbed spearhead.

Other fragments include the following.
Flat copper alloy fragment.
Small hollow cone.
Small iron plate with fine bronze wire around. Possibly modern but heavily corroded.

Copper alloy socketed axe frag, joining NCM broken axe 1.984.2a and 2b therefore should be 2c.
Copper alloy object perhaps Roman, not a brooch, hollow conical piece, superficially like certain Bronze Age objects but not a good parallel.
