Summary

Metal-detecting between 1981 and 1998 as well as small-scale test pitting in 2012 by Kettlestone Community Project has recovered multi-period finds from the site of an undated field system (see NHER 44362). An Early Neolithic/Early Bronze Age flint flake; Iron Age, Roman, Middle Saxon and Late Saxon to modern pottery sherds; post-medieval to modern brick and roof tile fragments; a piece of medieval textile; Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon and medieval coins and Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval metal objects were discovered. The metal finds include a Roman brooch and earring; a Late Saxon pin head; medieval and post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval book fitting, stud, harness pendant and stylus and a post-medieval token and weight.

7 post-medieval pottery sherds and brick and tile fragments.
Post-medieval/modern iron and non-ferrous metal objects, vessel glass, roof tile, brick and pottery sherds.
Undated animal bone fragments, iron nails, oyster shell fragments, burnt bone fragments, iron smelting slag, clinker, coal and a lead droplet.
