Record Details

NHER Number:11803
Type of record:Monument
Name:Site of medieval to post medieval settlement

Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking at this site has recovered a wide range of objects dating from the prehistoric to post medieval periods. This includes a very unusual silver penny of Aethelstan I of East Anglia. Substantial amounts of pottery were recovered during fieldwalking. Two rectangular concentrations of pottery fragments and building material suggest these were the sites of houses. The pottery dates to the 15th to 17th centuries. This area may be Church Street or Churchgate referred to in old documents.
