Full description

Very Early English south doorway, about 1190, part restored.
Little else except parts of walls remains from original church.
Old photographs inside show that the chancel had an intersected east window and possibly lancets.
This was demolished in 1864 and replaced by an apse, when the tower and south porch were added, all by H. Hayward.
Previously there had been a bellcote.
Apse interior is identical to chancel of Balham Congregational Church, now a Polish Roman Catholic Church, South London, which is of 1883, suggesting use of pattern books.
Nave windows restored in Early English form.
Roof also of 1864, scissor trusses.
17th to 18th century floor tombs.
Good 18th to 19th century monuments.
Large hatchment.
See (S1).
Visited by E. Rose (NAU) 28 September 1978.

(S2) in file.
