Name:Ruins of All Saints' Church, West Beckham

Summary

The remains of a medieval church, in ruins by 1602. The west tower fell in 1783 and the whole building was demolished in 1890, when much of its masonry was incorporated into the new church of St Helen's and All Saints' Church (NHER 6571). Only the outline of the nave, chancel and south porch can be made out. The surrounding churchyard remains in use and has a number of fine 18th century headstones.

Full description

Ruinous by 1602.
Demolished 1890.
Early English.
Foundations visible - flint, with brick chancel.
South porch with parvis and wooden turret.
Also niche, round tower with octagonal belfry fell in 1783 and was replaced by a round-headed window.
Had royal arms of George I painted over James I.
18th century tomb stones.
Stone went to build new church together with that from East Beckham. Listed (S1).

Foundation outline visible on the ground.
The main church appears to be of flint nodules and the chancel of brick.
