Summary

A large Neolithic polished flint axehead was reportedly found on the edge of this field in 1965. It is also recorded that a Mesolithic flint adze/axehead was recovered at this location by the same finder. Although this is probably not the same object it is possible that the provenance given for one or the other was incorrect.
Fieldwalking here in 1979 recovered a single Roman pottery sherd. A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey of part of this field in 2008 recovered a medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd and a small number of post-medieval metal-objects.

Full description

1965. Stray Find.
About 365m (400 yards) west-north-west of Weybourne Brecks Farm. Found by [1] on edge of field with other stones that had probably been ploughed out and thrown to side:
1 Neolithic polished flint axehead (large). 9 3/4 inches [25cm] long, cutting edge 3 inches [7.6cm] across.

R. Jacobi's records (S3) list a Mesolithic flint adze/axehead as having being found by the same finder at virtually the same location. Although this is listed as being found c. 350yds north-west of Brecks Farm, the grid reference is the same as that given for the polished axehead ([2]). Jacobi received his information from the finder herself and although it is therefore probable that a Mesolithic tool was indeed found, it is possible that the reported location of one of these objects was incorrect. It should be noted that (S1) actually records the polished axehead as found on Kelling Heath, which is on the far side of the Hundred Acre Wood.
