Summary

A Bronze Age round barrow, surrounded by a low bank and a ditch, is located close to the Kelling to Wiveton road. It was partially excavated in 1924, but no finds were recovered.

Full description

Tumulus. On the Hangs, north of Kelling to Wiveton road.
Circular mound with no certain evidence of ditch.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).

August 1924. Excavation.
Nothing found. 15m (50ft) broad, 1.5 (5ft) high, with trace of shallow ditch and possible bank. Grassed on heath.

1974. Visit.
Bank 3m wide, 15cm high, ditch 3m wide, 30cm deep; mound 12m diameter, 1.5m high. Grassed.

February 1986. Visit.
Condition as above, but outer bank not seen. Site gorse covered but bare on north side.

Mound now under thick cover of gorse.

Mound 15m wide by 1.5m high, ditch 2.5m wide by 0.2m deep.

Brambles and gorse have been removed. Barrow showing uneven surface due to old rabbit disturbance (this is now controlled).

Earthworks of round barrow, visible on the 1969 Ordnance Survey aerial photographs (S3). The diameter of the mound appears to be around 14m,surrounded by a ditch, approximately 1-2m wide.
