Summary
A late 18th to early 19th century two storey red brick former rectory, now a private house. The symmetrical façade has a central doorway with an architrave and Doric pilasters. A small one storey wing projects to the north. The building that stood on this site previously was occupied by the famous diarist, Parson James Woodforde, from 1774 to 1803.

October 1984. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"Former rectory house. Late 18th/early 19th century. Red brick, formerly limewashed, hipped slate roof. Two storeys; three by three bays. Central bays of south and east facades advanced and pedimented with paired brick pilasters. Paired corner pilasters. Sashes with glazing bars; gauged arches over openings."

The building that stood on this site previously was occupied by the famous diarist, Parson James Woodforde, from 1774 to 1803. It is thought that the grounds are probably not much changed since Woodforde's time, and that various walls and the large pond etc from that time survive. It is also possible that cellars below the present building may have belonged to the earlier building. It is said that cropmarks of the earlier building can occasionally be seen on the lawns.

The present building was also used to house USAAF officers during World War Two. There is a local story that one drunken officer saw a ghost inside the house, and peppered the walls of one room with bullets.
