Summary

The fragmentary skeleton of a young adult male was discovered in 1967. The skeleton had been buried with an Early Saxon brooch, beads and wrists clasps.

Full description

1967. Field Monitoring. 1005m (1100 yards) West of West Hall.
Material from the sides of a trench cut for drainage purposes and from its spoil.
Material consists of simple wrist clasp fragments, 1 with repousse' decoration, a ring brooch and fragmentary human remains.
Cruciform brooch (Aberg Group III) with calcium carbonate inlay in lappets and in foot.
Cruciform brooch examined by British Museum Research Lab and Dr Clavingbull.
Finder retained Cruciform brooch and 3 beads.

Cruciform brooch has inlay, see correspondence (S4) and (S5).
Adult young male right and left femurs with copper alloy stains. Distal end of femur right tibia and fragment of fibula. Fragment of scapula. Cruciform brooch was on upper tibia fragment.

Various objects were donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1968.165), including the annular brooch, wrist clasps and human bone.
