Name:Site of Roman settlement and salt works

Summary

A Roman inhumation and pewter vessels were found on this site in the 1940s. An excavation in 1948 revealed evidence of Roman settlement and salt production, including pottery, animal bones and briquetage. A second excavation in 1998 indicated dense settlement during the 3rd and 4th centuries AD as well as salt production.

Human skeleton with Roman bracelets found.

Roman pewter dish found.

Roman sherds, animal bone, salt working debris and pewter found in excavation.

October 1998.
Part excavation revealed occupation layer, with coins, pottery and briquetage.
