Summary
Metal detecting and excavation on this site recovered a number of worked flints, including a Neolithic polished axe fragment and a leaf arrowhead. A Roman copper alloy bowl, situated upside down next to a backfilled trench, as well as coins from the Roman and medieval period, a Late Saxon sherd and a number of medieval and post medieval metal objects were also recovered.

October 2003. Metal-detecting and Excavation.
Metal-detecting following completion of archaeological evaluation (NHER 37648). Various objects recovered from backfill of evaluation trenching including:
Neolithic polished axe fragment and other worked flints.
One Roman and one medieval coins.
Late Saxon sherd.
Medieval, post medieval and undatable metal objects.
A group of objects was also found in situ next to one of the evaluation trenches. These finds were exposed at a depth of 0.35m following a small excavation and included a ?Roman copper alloy vessel that appeared to have been deliberately placed in an upside-down position (S1). It was associated with a number of iron objects including a tanged knife and nail.
