Full description

April-May 2002. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping along route of Anglian Water pipeline (North Pickenham to West Bradenham Supply Main).
A range of unstratified finds were recovered including:
Burnt flints of possible prehistoric date.
Many prehistoric worked flints and several pottery sherds.
Roman coins and brooch.
A Late Saxon hooked tag.
Medieval buckles, strap ends, thimble, cauldron foot, lead ampulla and a fine annular 'coronet' brooch.
Medieval and post-medieval brick and tile fragments.
Various post-medieval and modern metal objects.
Although these objects were assigned to specific collection areas the exact locations of these are not known at present.
Archaeological features identified during the watching brief and subsequently excavated are recorded under NHER 37104 and NHER 37105. Several areas were also selected for excavation prior to the commencement of the watching brief; these sites are recorded under NHERs 37097-37100.
See assessment report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2). Final publication awaited.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.435).
