Summary

Fieldwalking here in 2001 and 2003 recovered sherds of Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery. Types identified included Middle Saxon Ipswich Ware, Roman greyware and Late Saxon Thetford Ware. In addition, several fragments of quernstones were retrieved.

Full description

February 2001. Found along edge of ploughed field immediately next to verge.
Two body sherds finely gritted Iron Age.
Two body sherds sandy reduced Iron Age.
One basal sherd fine sandy Ipswich.
One rim pimply Ipswich.
One sagging basal and one body sherd Thetford type.
Two body sherds medieval unglazed.

2003. Fieldwalking.
Two flint gritted Iron Age, one sand Iron Age without iron ore inclusions, one other probably similar.
One shelly and organic tempered ?Iron Age or Middle Saxon?
One dish rim Roman greyware.
One base fine sandy Ipswich.
Six medieval unglazed.
One fragment lava quern.
