Summary

Metal detecting between 1997 and 2005 recovered a wide range of objects, including two Neolithic polished flint axeheads, Roman coins, pottery fragments, a brooch and a stud, Saxon pottery fragments and a stirrup mount, medieval pottery fragments, coins, strap ends, buckles, a horse harness pendant and a box fitting and post medieval coins, pottery fragments and tokens.

February to March 2000. Metal detecting.
Medieval box fitting or harness mount, complete and consisting of a long bar which is slightly U-shaped in section. The centre is facetted with a flat top along the centre; at either end is a square panel with criss-cross grooves. Beyond these at each end is another tiny length of facetting then a transverse moulding, then a rivet hole and then a long narrow knop. These kinds of bars, but with hinge loops, are used to hold horse harness pendants, but strip-like mounts are known to have been used to decorated boxes too.

Late medieval/early post medieval part of a monumental brass inscription. The fragment is curving, and might therefore come from a scroll emanating from the mouth of a figure. -]c parte dandi c[-. (S1).

1 Late Saxon stirrup strap mount (Williams Class A Type 1).
1 medieval coin, 11 pottery sherds (1 glazed Grimston, 10 unglazed), 1 horse harness pendant (in form of bird, ?eagle, gilt), 1 candlestick shaft and 1 strainer.
1 ?medieval Auger spoon-bit.
1 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd (LMT), 1 cauldron leg and 2 rings.
1 post-medieval coin, 1 token, 2 pottery sherds (GRE), 2 sword belt mounts, 1 buckle frame fragment, 2 buckle frames, 2 furniture escutcheon plates (elaborate), 1 belt mount and 1 cup weight (1/2oz).
