Name:Possible Early Saxon Inhumation Cemetery

Summary

Metal-detecting between 1999 and 2012 recovered Neolithic and prehistoric worked flints; Early Saxon and medieval pottery sherds; medieval and post-medieval coins and metal objects dating from the Iron Age to post-medieval periods. The metal finds include part of an Iron Age brooch; a Roman harness mount; a Saxon coin pendant, gold bead and brooches, including a fine square-headed example; a medieval horse harness pendant and several buckles; medieval/post-medieval vessel fragments and a mount and post-medieval hooked tags, a harness mount, lead alloy button, cloth seal and half of a Jew's harp. In 2009 the site was reinterpreted as a possible inhumation cemetery, based on the discovery of Early Saxon pottery.
