Name:Multi period metal objects, coins and pottery sherds

Summary

In the 1950s and 1960s a Roman coin and several Roman pottery sherds were recovered from this location. Subsequent metal detecting in 1988-89 and 2000 discovered a post medieval clothier’s/weaver’s seal, a medieval forked buckle, a Roman military strap distributor and lead steelyard weight and a post medieval rowel spur with moulded decoration.

Part of large scatter NHER 30983.

Before 16 March 2000. Metal detecting.
Post medieval disc from a lead cloth seal, stamped with a relief '32'(?) on one face and with possible tiny letters on the other. Probably a 16th to 18th century clothier's or weaver's seal.
Undatable irregular lead weight, sub-circular and plano-convex with an off-centre, slightly flaring perforation. Parital groove around the perforation on the base. Weighs 40-45g (1.43oz).
