Summary

Fieldwalking between 1997 and 1999 recovered sherds of Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds, along with pieces of shell and quern fragments. Metal-detecting in 2015 recovered Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and a medieval buckle and part of a swivel from a leash.

Full description

December 1997. Fieldwalking in good conditions. [1].
Area approximately 30 x 30m in northwest part of field, to east of former pond, with concentration of medieval sherds.
Sixty-one sherds including twelve glazed (all Grimston apart from one bowl with internal glaze and white inclusions, Cambridgeshire type).
Unglazed and predominantly sandy Blackborough End type but some white inclusions. Only two small weathered lava quern fragments.
Mussel and oyster shells, quite a lot of animal bone.

Autumn 1999. One quick walk over stubble to north of dyke. [2].
One base, shelly, probable St Neots type.
One very abraded body sherd, ?Stanford ware.
One jar rim and three body sherds medieval unglazed.
One base unglazed Grimston
One stabbed strap handle glazed with white inclusions (Cambridge type).

Two Grimston, unglazed.
