Summary

Metal detecting in this area during 1997 recovered a variety of objects including a medieval harness pendant with a dragon motif, a medieval bronze plaque in the form of a chicken, a Roman coin and sherds of Late Saxon and medieval pottery.

Full description

1997. Metal detector finds.
Eleven unglazed medieval pot sherds.
One possible glazed medieval pot sherd.
Medieval bronze harness pendant, possibly cut down to be a square shape. Design indistinct but possibly a dragon. S.Ashley (NAU) says it is - see drawing (S1) and blazon in file.

1997. Metal detector finds.
Fourteen pot sherds, Late Saxon/medieval.
Thetford type ware 'cheese wire' marked base.
Two Thetford type rims with 'lid seating'. Five body sherds.
Three body sherds (one sagging base).
Two strap handles with thumb impressed decoration.
Thumb impressed decorated rim with trace of clay for handle/spout attachment.
Medieval bronze plaque in form of chicken.
