Summary
Aerial photographs taken in 1994 show an area of light soil and two anomalous features. One of these features appears to be a substantial building, with possible numerous annexes. As such it could be the remains of an ecclesiastical or monastic grange. The other anomaly is rectangular but its purpose is not obvious. Subsequent metal detecting here during 1995-98 recovered a Late Saxon disc brooch, a medieval buckle, silver working debris and various pottery sherds.

The northern anomaly appears to be a substantial building, with possible numerous annexes. Possible ecclesiastical or monastic grange? The anomaly does not show clearly on earlier images.
Finds are relatively sparse, especially metal, is this genuine? Roman even? Quite unlike the medieval moated structure to the west. World War Two? Pre-cursor to Pynkney Hall?
The second anomaly is a relatively large area of light soil within a rectangle, possibly caused by ploughing, but that would not alone explain the colour change. Area does appear to have a sharp boundary, but tractor tyre tracks cross this.
