Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1994 and 2013 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval roof tile fragments; Iron Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins and Iron Age to post-medieval and undated metal objects. The metal finds include an Iron Age brooch; a Roman Colchester one-piece brooch, a Dolphin brooch, a probe, bucket escutcheon and a hair pin; a possible Early Saxon bronze annular bead; a Middle Saxon dress component; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval brooches, part of a box, a furniture fitting, pendant, stud, dagger chape fragment and a harness pendant and suspension mount; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment; a post-medieval harness mount and lead drain cover and an undated pair of tweezers.

1994. Fieldwalking. Context 1.
Four probable Roman greyware body sherds.
One medieval roofing tile sherd.
One late medieval/transitional unglazed sherd.
One stamped motif stoneware sherd.

Colchester one-piece brooch, spring, pin and catch plate missing. Plain bow, circular cross-section, tapering, plain and bent. Mid 1st century AD. Identified by D. Gurney (NLA).
Possible Early Saxon bronze annular bead, double groove around outer edge. Diameter of 10.5mm, hole 5.5mm.
Lower part of medieval dagger chape. Fully enclosing. Terminal knob. Front decorated with engraved fleur-de-lis on elongated stem and punched dashes. Identified by A. Rogerson (NLA).
