Summary

Metal-detecting between 1995 and 2012 recovered three post-medieval silver coins that were possibly part of a small hoard; medieval and post-medieval tokens; post-medieval jettons and Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Bronze Age awl; Iron Age, Late Iron Age/Roman, Roman, Early Saxon and medieval brooches; a Roman furniture fitting, seal box lid, hair pin, nail, part of a spoon and a nail cleaner; an Early Saxon buckle; a Late Saxon strap-end, medieval dress accessories, a harness mount, seal matrix, key and strap fitting; a medieval/post-medieval hooked tag and post-medieval dress accessories, thimbles, a strap fitting and a sword belt fitting. In addition, fieldwalking on the site in 1997 retrieved fragments of medieval roof tile and sherds of Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds.

20 March 1995. Metal detector find.
Two post medieval buckle plates.
Roman brooch. Trumpet, spring and pin missing. Large perforation through single lug, and slot below. The mid-bow moulding is akin to that on Hattatt 332, the Kraftig Profilierte or 'strongly profiled type', the progenitor of the Trumpet. Transverse grooves on and flanking the mid-bow moulding and above the foot knob. 1st century AD.
