Summary

Extensive metal-detecting and fieldwalking at this location from 1993 to 2005 retrieved a wealth of metal objects dated to a variety of archaeological periods. These artefacts included a possible Mesolithic flint blade, a medieval papal bull, a post medieval tobacco tamper or signet ring, a post medieval toy cannon and several medieval coins.

Full description

1993. Metal detector finds.
Middle Saxon biconical headed pin and collar.
Medieval ring brooch, narrow bar for pin (missing). Punched annulets.

Medieval ring brooch. Elaborate pin with square collar, with nicked ornament on edge. Circular-sectioned ring.

1995. Metal detector finds at location [7].
Late Saxon box or stirrup mount with sunken lozenge shaped panel in centre of lozenge shaped plate. Side lobes and bosses.
Pierced circular terminal at one end and angled flange and other with two iron rivets in it. Single cast boss at base of central lozenge.

1997. Metal detector find.
Gilded and ?tinned/silvered bronze sexfoil mount/stud. Stamped circles around outside and six punched 'dots' at the base of each foil. Raised square centre with chamfered corners and five punched dots. Slightly concave at back with two soldered shanks. Unusual form probably early medieval 11th/12th century.
