Summary

A Bronze Age copper alloy flat axehead was found in 1949 or 1950. Subsequent metal-detecting recovered a ?Iron Age pottery sherd; a Roman coin; a medieval key and belt fitting and a post-medieval pottery sherd.

Full description

1949 to 1950. Stray Find.
Ploughed up:
Early Bronze Age copper alloy flat axehead. 100mm long, 68mm wide, broad butt. < 1% Sn.
Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1955.193).
Information from (S1), which has an outline sketch of the object on its reverse. This axehead is figured in (S2) and amongst the Bronze Age objects listed in (S3) and (S4).

August 1982. Metal-detecting.
Around axe findspot:
1 ?Iron Age pottery sherd (gritty)
1 Roman coin (silver denarius of Trajan AD 103 to 117) and 1 pottery sherd (greyware).
1 medieval decorated copper alloy key (very worn) and 1 gilt copper alloy belt fitting.
1 post-medieval pottery sherd (lead glazed earthenware).
All items apart from Roman coin and medieval key (which were retaind by the finder) donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1983.384.3).
