Summary

A large piece of a Middle Saxon pottery pitcher was found by chance before 1983. Fieldwalking in 1993 recovered Iron Age, Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery fragments, while metal-detecting in 2015 and 2019 recovered a medieval buckle and seal matrix.

Full description

Stray find by farmer, some years ago.
Grid reference approimate. Large sherd of pimply Ipswich Ware, spouted pitcher, including broken spout.
Identified by A.Rogerson (NLA), February 1993.

Fieldwalking on 1 February 1993 produced scatter as noted below.
One body sherd gritty Iron Age.
One small sandy body sherd Ipswich Ware, Middle Saxon.
Four jar rims, two bases (one flat), one body sherd (diamond roulette), Thetford Type Ware, Late Saxon.
Six rims unglazed medieval.
Forty four non differentiated Thetford Type/Medieval unglazed Late Saxon/Medieval.
Four Grimston glazed body medieval.
One Langerwehe stoneware, medieval.
One Glazed Red Earthenware, post medieval.
