Full description

1992. Metal detecting finds.
Aethelred II penny 997-1003. See list in file.
Identified by J. Davies (NCM) 7 December 1992.
Probably medieval, gilded copper alloy sheet 'cover' to stepped rectangular 'plinth' formed of lead. Perhaps from casket with decorated plate missing from central rectangular field. The gilded sheet covers just the sides of the stepped 'plinth', very fine gilding.
Medieval rowel spur, symmetrical figure-eight terminals. Moulded collars on terminal. Other terminal broken off. Moulded neck on rowel-arms.
