Summary

Metal-detecting in this area from 1992 onwards has recovered a large number of objects from the Roman to post-medieval periods. This includes Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; a Roman ritual hammer; a number of brooches from the Early Saxon and Late Saxon periods; a Middle/Late Saxon strap-end; a medieval finger ring and folding strap clasp; medieval/post-medieval metal objects and post-medieval coins, a jetton, token, finger ring and dress accessories.

Lead sheet fragment with linear and cross-hatched cast relief ornament, seam with remains of some means of attachment on reverse. ?Part of medieval pilgrim badge. [1]
Lead fragment with beardless bust on one face, and ?attachment stub on reverse. Bust has high and elaborate hair style. [1]
Probably post-medieval.

Medieval ?harness pendant. Cast in form of scallop shell, grooved and punched decorated. ?Silvered/tinned. Suspension loop missing. 12th/14th century.
Early post-medieval button. Cast, one-piece, circular head with floral design.

Fragment of cast lead/lead alloy strip (width ??mm) showing part of a draped human figure, left arm at waist, right arm raised to hold ?staff or similar. Probably post-medieval, but possibly medieval. Ident V. Fryer (NCM).
Bronze round uniface coin weight. French or English. For a French ecu 1422-75.

Part of the rectangular frame from clasp (probably similar to folding strap clasp). Outer edge and one arm only survive; outer edge has cast decoration of a human face wearing a crown with fleur-de-lis points. A ridge to either side of the head recalls similar ridges on folding strap plate frames. Slightly bigger than, but similar to Dress Access. No. S68. 13th/15th century.
