Summary

Fieldwalking in 1992 and metal-detecting between 1994 and 2011 recovered prehistoric worked flints including a Mesolithic retouched flake; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery; Roman roof tile fragments; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval token and Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Middle/Late Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an Early Bronze Age flat axehead and chisel; a Late Bronze Age socketed axe; an Iron Age brooch; a Roman brooch, bracelet fragment, hair pin, steelyard weight, spindle whorl, furniture fitting and a remarkable example of a candelabrum in the form of an elaborate Ionic capital; a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories and copper alloy vessel fragments; a medieval finger ring; a medieval/post-medieval chafing dish fragment and a post-medieval furniture fitting. The majority of finds date to the Roman period and are indicative of a Roman settlement (see NHER 59928).

First half 1992. Fieldwalking.
Found by [1] (finder's Field 51). General finds from field with Roman pottery concentration at [2]:
Six flint flakes.
Three bowl rims, two jar rims, two bases, twenty-two body sherds Roman greyware.
Two body sherd medieval unglazed, one twisted handle glazed Grimston.
