Summary

Metal detecting in 1990 recovered a medieval gilded silver finger ring depicting clasped hands and the Virgin Mary and child on a hexagonal bezel. Further metal detecting in 1993 recovered Roman, medieval and post medieval coins, two Roman brooches, part of a Roman buckle and armlet and a Roman cult object featuring a peacock, a bird associated with the goddess Juno.

Full description

August 1990. Metal detecting at cliff fall at Weybourne.
15th century gilded silver iconographic finger ring with clasped hands at back of hoop; Virgin Mary and child on hexagonal bezel, and foliage scrolls engraved on shoulders. Curious rough concentric lines inside, from working?
Compare with C. Oman, British Rings plate 55 I for an iconographic finger-ring with clasped hands at back of hoop.

Bronze Roman ?small buckle or link piece.
Bronze 40mm long section of Roman armlet with badly worn decoration.
Bronze Roman zoomorphic brooch. Fish type 2nd century inlaid with blue enamel (part remaining).
Bronze Roman Dolphin-type brooch 1st century. Bow has D-shaped section and is decorated with dotted lines.
Bronze Roman bird cult object, almost certainly a peacock. Head and tail missing. (Peacock associated with goddess Juno).
