Summary

Metal detecting here during the period 1991-98 recovered a diverse range of metal objects and coins. Finds of note included a medieval lead seal matrix, post medieval book clasp, a Middle Saxon ansate brooch with ring and dot decoration, a complete medieval mirror case, a Roman razor and three Roman coins of Constantine I.

Full description

1991. Metal detector finds. Context 2 at location [1].
10th century bronze openwork strap end fragment.
Medieval objects:
(1) Lead circular seal matrix.
(2) and (3) 15th century harness pendant attachment.
(4) Harness pendant.

Post medieval bronze book clasp, with stamped ring-and-dot and larger circle with double cross motif and pierced holes in each quadrant and in centre. Rivet at hooked end, two rivets at other end. Post medieval bronze trefoil and crescentric-shaped belt-mount with two spikes on reverse.
