Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking in 1991 recovered ?Early Saxon and undatable pottery sherds; a Bronze Age copper alloy sword blade fragment and two Early Saxon brooch fragments. A Mesolithic or later quartzite pebble mace was found here in 1994.

Late 1991. Fieldwalking and metal-detecting.
Found by [1] (finder's Field 48):
1 Bronze Age copper alloy sword blade fragment. Drawn (S1).
2 Early Saxon brooch fragments.
2 ?Early Saxon pottery sherds.
1 undatable pottery sherd.
Identified by J. Davies (NCM), S. Margeson (NCM) and A. Rogerson (NLA). See list and descriptions in file.

1994. Stray Find.
Mesolithic or later quartzite pebble mace with hour-glass perforation. Petrology No.N329 (quartzite, not 'cored'). See drawing (S2).
Identified by P. Robins (NCM), see description in file. This discovery was reported in (S3).
Although recorded as probably Mesolithic it should be noted that these objects are generally seen as not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
