Summary

Metal-detecting between 1991 and 2005 recovered prehistoric worked flint including an hammerstone and Neolithic arrowhead, knife and other flint tool; Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery and coins and Roman, Early Saxon and medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman brooch, figurine, finger ring, razor and weights; and Early Saxon brooch and medieval dress accessories, a brooch, padlock, seal and part of a sieve. The amount, type and concentration of Roman finds is indicative of a small Roman settlement (see NHER 59929).

The amount, type and concentration of Roman finds recovered from the northern portion of the site is indicative of a small Roman settlement. See NHER 28470.

1998. Metal detecting.
Conical sheet copper alloy socket from a late Medieval strimmer.
Traces of wooden handle still visible in socket (2 on flat base).
Length about 95mm, max width 55mm.
Formed of 3 pieces of sheet, 8 copper alloy rivets aloy one edge, and ?the same number aloy the other.
Wood handle held in place by copper alloy nail passing through top and bottom sheet.
