Summary

Metal detecting in this area from 1989-93 recovered a large number of finds dating from the Bronze Age to the post medieval period. These included part of a Bronze Age socketed axe blade, a Middle Saxon strap end, part of a Middle Saxon nummular brooch and a Late Saxon bridle cheekpiece fragment. Roman, medieval and post medieval coins were also found.

Full description

1989. Found with metal detector.
Fragment of Bronze Age socketed axe blade with casting flaw. See (S1) and (S2).
Reversed fantail brooch around AD 40 to 55.
Middle Saxon bronze strap end with split end and two rivet holes and elongated narrow terminal tapering to a point, decorated with transverse ribbing.
Middle Saxon? decorated bronze leaf shaped object, with central groove and three ring and dots near broken shaft? - toilet article.
Edward I penny, (bifoliate crown) probably London mint.
Late medieval decorated bronze handle from chafing dish, cupboard or box?
Post medieval decorated bracket for handle? post medieval bronze tag end.

Thimble, copper alloy.
Copper alloy cockerel-shaped tap handle, stamped with 'serpent' (maker's mark).
