Full description

April to May 1990. Finder's Field 30. Metal detecting finds and fieldwalking.
Roman and medieval metalwork.
Neolithic flint axe.

June 1990. Metal-detecting and fieldwalking.
Found by [1] (finder's Field 30):
3 prehistoric flint cores (1 two-opposed platform), 80 flakes (some with retouch), 15 blades/blade fragments, 1 end scraper, 3 scrapers, 2 crude scrapers, 1 ?retouched blade and 1 notched and retouched blade.
1 Late Neolithic flake knife.
1 ?Roman lead steelyard weight.
1 Early Saxon brooch (florid cruciform foot plate).
1 medieval coin, 4 pottery sherds (2 unglazed and 2 glazed Grimston), 1 copper alloy vessel rim and 1 finger ring (charm amulet from shrine?).
1 ?medieval barrel padlock.
Flints and pottery identified by A. Rogerson (NAU) and other objects by S. Margeson (NCM). See list and descriptions in file. Although no date was suggested for most of the flint the nature of the material subsequently found on this and other nearby sites suggests that the blades and two-platform core may well have been Mesolithic or Early Neolithic.
