Summary

Metal-detecting between 1990 and 2015 recovered a late prehistoric flint flake; post-medieval pottery sherds; a Late Saxon or medieval hone stone; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval tokens; post-medieval jettons and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Roman nails, a brooch, chisel and votive model; Early Saxon brooches, a wrist clasp, buckle, girdle hanger, pendant and sleeve clasp; a Middle Saxon brooch and chatelaine; a Late Saxon brooch, strap-end and harness; a Late Saxon to post-medieval spindle whorl; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval book fitting, harness mount, papal bull, horse harness pendant, lead pot mend and cauldron and chafing dish fragments; a medieval/post-medieval skimmer, copper alloy ring, 'paper-clip' rivet and crotal bell and post-medieval weights, a finger ring, cloth seal, rowel spur, powder measure, crotal bell, harness mount and less than one half of a pair of scissors.
A concentration of Early Saxon finds in one area suggests an inhumation cemetery of that period.
