Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking here between 1989 and 2006 recovered Mesolithic/Neolithic and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins and Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Bronze Age or Early Saxon cast ring; a Roman finger ring; an Early Saxon brooch; Middle Saxon brooches and pin; Late Saxon strap ends and buckle; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval purse frame, key, possible casket mount, harness pendants and mount, Papal lead bulla, lead seal matrix and the hand of a crucifix figure; a medieval/post-medieval book clasp, purse frame and lead weight and post-medieval book clasps.

Late 1989. Finder's Field 18 [1]. Found with metal detecting and in fieldwalking.
General scatter of sherds.
Metal finds plotted.

April to May 1990. Further fieldwalking and detecting.
Fragment of medieval ?purse frame.
More Late Saxon and medieval pottery.

August to September 1990.
Yet more finds.

1 Mesolithic/Neolithic flint core, 2 blades and 2 small flakes.
1 Early Saxon brooch.
1 Middle Saxon pin.
1 medieval coin, belt plate, 2 buckles, 1 belt mount, 1 sheet off-cut and 1 cast arm with pierced hand from crucifix figure.
