Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking in this area between 1989 and 1994 recovered Mesolithic, Neolithic, Neolithic/Bronze Age and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Roman, Early/Middle Saxon, Late Saxon and medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; a Roman coin and Middle Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Middle Bronze Age copper alloy rapier; a Middle Saxon pin; a ?Middle Saxon strap end; a Late Saxon box mount; medieval dress accessories; a medieval finger ring and candle holder; a post-medieval gold wedding ring and a ?post-medieval horse harness pendant.

A watching brief carried out by the NAU in 2000 revealed two medieval pits underneath a post medieval cobbled surface, probably a yard or a trackway.
