Summary

Aerial photographs of this area show a number of rectilinear earthworks. These have been tentatively identified as the remains of medieval ditches and tofts. Additionally, a pond to the west of farm buildings in this area could be the remains of a medieval moat.

The southern of the two fields is now arable and has no visible earthworks. The northern field is still under pasture but could not contact owner.

1985 aerial photograph shows earthworks in pasture fields on both sides of lane leading to Shelfanger Hall. Field to south of lane now under arable. To north earthworks stand to some 0.75m, in pasture field grazed by horses. Owner states south field filled and ploughed in 1980s. Pond to west of farm buildings could be remains of moat. Black silt found during construction of barn and bungalow running east from pond.
